As a public non-profit led by a Board of Directors, all of whom are current or former LOA parents, our focus is on providing family-oriented service. We offer reliable year-round care. Children who participate in high-quality early childhood education programs are more likely to enter school ready to learn and often demonstrate advanced language and literacy skills, math skills, social-emotional skills, and cognitive abilities, all of which serve as a foundation for future academic success.

General Position Description

A Little Oaks Academy (LOA) Floater will support the school’s early childhood development program, providing a lasting impact on the LOA’s children by fostering a safe, nurturing, and educationally rich environment. Key responsibilities include nurturing age-appropriate development and ensuring care in a loving and safe environment. Floaters are expected to work collaboratively alongside the teachers in their assigned classroom(s).

Duties

  • Fostering a professional, safe, and ethical educational environment and developing a positive culture of cooperation and child-centered care.
  • Maintaining high-quality standards in the childcare program, ensuring compliance with licensing requirements and accreditation standards.
  • Promoting each child’s intellectual, emotional, and physical well-being while supporting social development and individual needs.
  • Collaborating with special education professionals to address the unique needs of children with developmental challenges.
  • Working under the supervision and mentorship of classroom teachers to ensure compliance with LOA's standards and governmental regulations.
  • Facilitating resolution for classroom issues.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

A Floater must maintain all requirements for the position as mandated by DHS licensed childcare facility as well as specific requirements for Little Oaks Academy. These requirements include:

  • A minimum of at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Compliance with all licensure-related requirements pertaining to a DHS-regulated daycare, such as passing a criminal background check, becoming certified in CPR and first aid, and undergoing health screenings.
  • Completion of all required training and coursework required by DHS regulations.
  • Ability to meet all physical requirements of the position including the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, ability to keep pace with toddlers and preschoolers, ability to work on the floor with infants and toddlers, and ability to maintain stamina and remain alert for eight hours or more.
  • Ability to support a positive work environment.
  • Provide three (3) written, verifiable (non-relative) work references.

 

Benefits

A Floater is an hourly position. In addition to maintaining scheduled classroom hours, attendance at evening and weekend meetings, training sessions, fundraisers, and other work-related events is required from time to time.

 

Compensation will be dependent upon the applicant’s qualifications, including education and training, as well as experience.

The purpose of our early childhood education and development program is to promote the development of the total child – physically, emotionally, intellectually, and socially, using age-appropriate activities under the guidance of professional, loving, and caring teachers. As a non-profit, LOA operates under a Board of Directors (the Board). The Board is charged with defining the mission, vision, and values of LOA’s early childhood education and development program.
